The 45th Infantry Museum in OKC is full of artifacts that help Oklahomans learn about and appreciate those who have served our nation, but the museum needs more volunteers.

The museum honors not just the service of the 45th infantry, but that of all Oklahomans.

Based in Oklahoma City and one of the first National Guard units to be activated for World War II, the 45th infantry later served in the Korean War.

At the museum, you can learn all about them and see so many unique artifacts such as historic war vehicles and weapons.

The museum also has Bill Mauldin cartoon collection. Mauldin was an American editorial cartoonist who won two Pulitzer Prizes for his work.

In order to continue to preserve this history, they need more volunteers. Some volunteers took a break and never came back because of the pandemic.

Volunteer John Spall said it is a great opportunity to share history with the young people.

"They come in and they have really good questions, and they may have had some history, but they are trying to fill in and when they see the display cases, they will have specific questions and I enjoy that the most."

The museum is donation based, so if you want to come out and enjoy the museum it is free, but donations also help keep this unique museum going.
