The Clinton Fire Department said the Aguirre home is a complete loss following a fire. The fire department said it could've been a lot worse if it wasn't for 12-year-old Deysi Aguirre.

Deysi Aguirre said her home was unrecognizable when she saw it after the fire.

“It feels sad to see my house like this and everything was a total loss,” Aguirre said.

The windows are gone, pieces of insulation from the home are scattered outside. Inside are charred pages of children's books and every room is covered with soot. Aguirre said the living room is where the fire started.

“The living room, that's where I was sleeping. And that's where the fire started,” Aguirre said.

The sound of crackling from an electrical outlet woke up Aguirre. She tried to unplug the cord, but she said the sparking wouldn't stop, so she jumped into action first waking up her aunt.

“She was saying ‘what happened, what happened?’ I told her that we needed to get out,” Aguirre said.

Aguirre woke up the rest of the family and they went to a neighbor's home and called 911.

The Clinton Fire Department showed up to battle the flames.

“Police let us know that everybody is out of the house. We had the large amounts of the fire within the first 30 seconds to a minute,” Lt. Dylan Abner said.

The Clinton Fire Department. honored Aguirre for her courage and bravery. They said this is the first award of its kind. They awarded her for saving her parents, siblings, and cousins that night.

“She's an amazing little girl, she's far beyond her years. My 12-year-old self wouldn't have known what to do,” Lt. Abner said.

“I feel good because I saved my family,” Aguirre said.

The family needs help getting back on their feet. The Clinton Fire Department is accepting donations for the family.
