It's happening this week at Expo Square. The National Snaffle Bit Association is named after a bit used early in horse training. NSBA Program Manager Elise Sheard says the snaffle bit is designed to fit gently on horses.
The 11-day event consists of classes, activities, and shows, making it NSBA's premiere event. Twenty-seven hundred horses of several different breeds and 7,000 people are in Tulsa for the occasion. Sheard says amateurs fly in from Europe, there are exhibitors from Canada, and states from Florida to Oregon are also represented.
There are classes and activities for kids all the way up to professionals who compete. Horse shows are going on at four different arenas at Expo Square. One demonstrates obstacles a working horse would face on a ranch. For Friday's $1 million horse sale, Sheard says the 100 yearlings are some of the best demonstrations in the breeding industry.
"It's the one time where we're able to bring all of our membership together as a community and celebrate not just the excellent horses that we have, but the community that our association fosters,” Sheard said.
The show continues through Sunday and is free for anyone to watch.
