With the Tulsa State Fair only a month away, employment for a variety of positions at the fair is underway. Organizers held a job fair Tuesday afternoon looking to hire hundreds of people to take part in the 11 Days of Awesome.
The job fair was held at the SageNet Center at the Tulsa Fairgrounds where people packed the parking lot looking to fill one of the many open jobs.
Expo Square COO, Amanda Blair, said that’s a good thing, because they have a lot of positions to fill.
"In a given year, we typically hire around 1000 people,” Blair said. “That's just Tulsa State Fair team. That's not to mention all the people the carnival employs as well as all the different concessionaires. So, the economic impact is definitely significant."
Maria Fuentes and Anne Roberts are both retired, but they are looking forward to getting back to work during the fair, because they miss working and seeing people every day.
"This is nice because it's just for 11 days and then I'm interested in being able to meet people again,” Fuentes said.
Open positions include ticket sales, parking attendants, security, food and beverages vendors, and guests' services. The only qualifications candidates need are to be responsible, organized, and have a great attitude.
"We want to make sure all of our guests have a great experience at the fair,” Blair said. “So, we are just looking to interview people and make sure we have a good opportunity for people to have guest services."
Blair said that if you missed the job fair today, that's okay. There is still an opportunity to apply.
"We are always looking to build a great team,” Blair said. “You can find more information at TulsaStateFair.com and we have employment opportunities on the website as well."
The State Fair will run from September 29 through October 9.
