Free Boat Rentals Resume At Peggy's Pond In Gathering Place

After being shut down for about a month, Peggy's Pond at Gathering Place is back open offering a unique summer activity: free kayak and pedal board rentals.

However, in August, the kayaks and pedal boards were put on the shelf.

Andrea Leitch, Gathering Place vice president of marketing and communications, said that Gathering Place had to shut down the free boat rentals in August due to the triple digit heat.

"We just wanted to ensure the safety of our park guests and staff," Leitch said. "We closed the boat operations down for August just due to the extreme heat, but we're happy to reopen it now."

This also wasn't the first time that Gathering Place has had to shut down the free boat rentals. The COVID-19 pandemic also forced Gathering Place to stop the free service for a couple of years.

"We were really fortunate to reopen our boats," Leitch said. "Due to the pandemic, the boat operations hadn't been open for the last few years so we just reopened them this summer."

Leitch said that Gathering Place is the only spot in Tulsa that offers these free rentals.

Anyone is able to come out and spend 30 minutes on the water each Friday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. up until October 24.
