People across Oklahoma are spending their holiday weekend at the lake for one last summer day on the water. For many, Labor Day marks the unofficial end to the summer.
Michael Fawcett owns the Reduud Marina on Oologah Lake. Fawcett said business has been busy the last few days.
The crowds tend to slow down after Labor Day because many of the people who come out here have families. School is back in session, so activities like football start to become more of a focus on weekends.
Fawcett said there are nearly 300 boat slips at the Marina. A lot of these people pass through the Oar House, where there is food and live music.
Of the big three summer holidays, Fawcett said this Labor Day has been picture perfect.
“Memorial Day was a little slow starting out with the flooding and everything,” said Fawcett. “By the 4th of July, it got extremely hot very quickly and so that kind of put a damper on a lot of people coming out during the day, but this weekend has been beautiful.”
The marina will close in a couple of weeks for the summer. Fawcett and his staff have plans to add new decks and remodel other areas of the marina during the offseason.
