The Griffin Promise Autism Clinic is getting ready to host its first-ever benefit Softball Tournament.
This is the first inclusive game to be hosted on the field, which means it's adaptive to people with special needs.
"We just really want to get to see how this field gets utilized and really kind of cheer them on and just showcase what they can do. Because we know they're amazing,” said Lori Frederick, Executive Director of the Griffin Promise Autism Clinic.
She says several staff members played softball and wanted to use their experience for a greater purpose.
"Softball is really special to a lot of us at the clinic. And so, we just kind of wanted to combine one of our personal passions with our charity and help raise money for the families that we connect with at the Griffin Promise,” said Lauren Cuddy, a speech pathologist at the clinic and event organizer.
The tournament is on Saturday, September 10, including an adult recreational slow pitch and an inclusive game. The adaptive field at Challenger Sports Complex is smaller in size with synthetic turf making it easier to move around. Anyone with special needs is invited to play and for that game, people can sign up when they get there or online here: Play for Autism Softball Benefit Tournament | The Griffin Promise
Frederick says the money raised will go to scholarships for kids for summer camp, families for medical needs, and teachers for conferences. But she says it will mainly help the clinic grow.
"We are in the process now of designing and building a bigger kind of autism center of the Midwest here in Broken Arrow,” Frederick said.
