Over 500 people have attended the community baby shower in the past.

Marnie Jackson with the health department says the event was created to educate families about keeping babies safe while they sleep.

Families will also learn about resources which are available from pregnancy all the way until their child is a year old.

She says not only will families enjoy free food and prizes, but they'll also have access to valuable information and resources.

“We have just a multitude of programs that are going to be there that is going to provide love, resources and going to take the time to follow up if they are not able to get questions answered on the day of the event,” Jackson said.

Kiarra Brooks says this was her first time attending an event like this and she learned new tips on keeping her baby healthy.

“I think it’s really good because being a first-time mom, knowing that you have all those other people there to help you is really good for them and for yourself as well,” Brooks said.

Edeli Penaloza is a first-time mom and says she’s excited to meet new moms and is looking forward to joining classes that could help her and her baby.

“I think this is great because I know that sometimes it is hard having a new baby, it changes your life a lot,” Penaloza said.

Families could spin to win prizes such as car seats, diaper genies, and play pins and they also had the opportunity to take home diapers, clothes and wipes.

“There helping out with diapers, and who doesn’t want free diapers. It’s nice that they are doing this for the community,” Penaloza said.

This is the first time this event has been held since the pandemic.
