A heads up for those who have recently mailed checks at the Owasso Post Office. The United States Postal Inspector's office says someone recently broke into the postal collection box that sits outside the post office.
Owasso Police say they've already had several victims come forward saying their checks were stolen and fraudulently used.
According to the postal inspector's office, the post box was broken into last week and they say those that still mail checks are at risk of having those checks "washed" and fraudulently used against them.
Postal Inspectors say, unfortunately, many banks have already honored the fake checks that were used.
Owasso Police say they are currently sending victims or potential victims to the U.S. Postal Inspector's Office to take reports.
You can contact their office at USPIS.gov or call (405)-815-2683.
Investigators say the elderly are at risk because the age group often mails checks. They recommend speaking with any older family members and helping them find alternatives to paying their bills.
