The Tulsa Glassblowing School is hosting a pumpkin patch, but they aren't your ordinary pumpkins.
Artists have been handcrafting beautiful glass creations for months. The Tulsa glassblowing school has its pumpkin patch sale going on right now and this school offers free classes for veterans, for kids, and a lot more. The glassblowing process happens quickly, starting with a trip to the hot shop to melt the glass before it gets a dip in color.
“The glass color just sticks to the surface.”
Kayla Ohlmer is the Program Director at the Glassblowing School and an artist herself.
“It's about 2000 degrees," Ohlmer said. "We’re looking for those pieces of glass to melt.”
The school aims to teach anyone how to glass blow.
"It’s teamwork," said Paul McLaughlin. "You kind of talk to people and for me, that's been a good thing.”
McLaughlin is an Army veteran and has taken the free military classes offered to people for the past four years. It’s an escape for him.
“When you're gathering, it's hotter than lava, so you can’t think about nothing else," he said. "Clear your mind.”
The profits from the sales of these pumpkins will help pay for the free classes for veterans and kids.
People can also schedule group classes or personal lessons.
“It’s a really humbling experience," said Ohlmer. "I'm grateful I’m able to use this thing. I'm passionate for and impact people in a really positive way.”
"If there's anything going on in your life, you don't know the heck, you'll get through it, check it out," he said "Clear your mind and you'll figure it out afterward.”
The pumpkin patch is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Saturday. Appointments are recommended but not required. Find more details HERE
