Shower chances return to Green Country on Monday.
Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:
TULSA, Oklahoma - The long-awaited return of shower chances will be underway for the next few days across part of Oklahoma including some areas across the eastern part of the state. We’re currently in between two upper airflows, but eventually will be back under the northwest flow for the second half of the week. Early this week however Southwest upper flow will gradually appear later today through Tuesday and part of Wednesday. It’s during these periods that shower and thunderstorm chances will be possible across part of the area. There will be some variation of temperature but no major weather whiplash as anticipated.
A short-wave trough is diving down from the Intermountain region of the Rockies into the central plains states today. The cut off low in the southwest is weakening and will be absorbed into the upper airflow over the next 24 to 36 hours. It’s the combination of these two factors that will bring the lift needed for scattered showers and storms across part of the state, including Monday. A stronger upper-level system currently across the northwestern Canadian provinces will move across the central plane states Tuesday night and Wednesday bringing another cold front across our area early Wednesday morning. It appears enough moisture and instability will be present for another window of showers and storms early Wednesday morning across a small part of northeastern Oklahoma. As the deep trough continues across the great lakes area, Northwest flow developing behind the system will bring a few days of pleasant fall weather Thursday through the end of the week. Another strong cut-off low will develop near the Baja region later this week as another spoke of energy arrives in the northwest flow bringing our next cold front into the area either Saturday evening or Sunday morning with a chance for a few storms.
Temperatures on Monday will top out in the upper 70s and lower 80s today with mostly to partly cloudy conditions and southwest winds at 10 to 20 mph. Shower chances will remain in the forecast, but many locations will continue to be dry. Late this evening, a slightly better chance for a few organized showers and storms arrives from the southwest over part of the area. These should be exiting Northeastern Oklahoma early Tuesday morning. After early Tuesday, most of the day should be dry with a gusty southwest winds from 20 to 30 mph. Afternoon highs will reach the lower 80s. Areas that do not receive rainfall will have another elevated fire danger tomorrow due to gusty winds and drying vegetation.
Late Tuesday night into Wednesday, the next surface cold front approaches northeastern Oklahoma with a window for a few showers and storms. North winds arrive Wednesday afternoon with daytime highs in the upper 70s. Temperatures will cool Thursday with morning lows in the 40s and daytime highs in the mid-70s. South winds return Friday afternoon after morning temperatures in the 40s and daytime highs near 80. The first half of the weekend features lows in the 50s and daytime highs in the mid-80s with the return of southwest winds at 10 to 20 mph. Another surface front will arrive either Saturday evening or early Sunday with a slight chance for showers and storms followed by another slight reduction in temperature Sunday.
Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
