Tulsa Police are investigating a woman's death after a record-breaking cold snap.

The woman was found Tuesday morning across the street from the Tulsa Day Center, officers said.

It is expected to stay above freezing Wednesday night. However, The Day Center wants people to know they do their best to not turn anyone away who needs help.

Tulsa Police believe the record breaking, below freezing temperatures are likely to blame for the woman's death.

Tuesday morning EMSA was responding to someone complaining of being cold, and while paramedics were on scene, someone flagged them down about an unresponsive woman, officers said.

The Tulsa Day Center said the past few nights it has provided shelter to about 70 people each night, and they do have room for a few more.

"We don't turn anyone away unless there's some kind of violence thing happening. Last night we did not turn any females away,” Evan Taylor with the center said.

Taylor said the center offers much more than a warm place to sleep at night.

"They can get a shower. They can get their laundry done. They can get something to eat. They can meet with a case manager,” he said.

Another thing the Day Center offers to those in need, is clothing. Right now, Taylor said they need donations of winter coats, underwear and socks.

"I really, really was kinda like reluctant to accept that help, because I was embarrassed. But they treated me very very gentle,” Travis Batiste said.

Batiste said he has been living at the Tulsa Day Center for about two weeks, and believes he knows who the woman was after seeing her this morning.

"The young lady that passed away over there, I realized I shared a dinner with her yesterday,” Batiste said. “It's a sad thing, and that's why this place is so important. To keep those things from happening."

Tulsa Police have not released the woman's name while they work to notify her family. Officers estimate she was in her mid 30s.
