As the weather gets cold, keeping your house warm is a big deal during the winter months.
As energy costs continue to increase, many people are looking for ways to save money and still stay nice and cozy.
One of the first things people can do to save money is to turn down the thermostat when nobody is at home. Wayne Green, a PSO spokesman, said there's more than one way to do that.
"You can do that manually or you can use a smart thermostat. There's no reason to pay for power to heat your home during times when you're at work," said Green.
Another idea Green recommends is changing the furnace filter to keep heat flowing.
"A furnace filter that's clogged makes the whole system work harder and you're paying for heat that you're not getting," said Green.
Green said to make sure nothing is blocking your furnace register or vent, too. If that happens, it means you aren't getting the heat where you need it, but you're still paying for it.
"There's not an area rug or a sofa on top of the register. You don't won't to pay to heat the other side of the sofa," said Green.
