A winter storm will impact folks across the state and is expected to hit the metro hard on Tuesday.

“The Oklahoma Highway Patrol will have troopers out and available,” said Trooper Eric Foster, with OHP.

OU is moving to virtual classes and UCO has already closed tomorrow, with several school districts watching the forecast. Foster wants drivers to slow down when the snow hits the road.

“They’re really the main issue that we always see,” Foster said. “Speed or that lack of speed is your friend.”

Check your tires and your windshield wipers.

“Things like that will help you immensely,” Foster said.

Bring a cell phone and make sure it’s charged and dress for the cold.

“We’ll show up to crashes and people will be in shorts and flip-flops,” Foster said.

If you're stuck in a winter storm, there is no telling when help will show up.

"They can be fatal for you if it’s cold enough,” Foster said.

So, check the forecast before you get in the car.

“You need to dress for the weather that is outside,” Foster said.

However, Foster said they’re prepared for whatever mother nature throws.

“If you need the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, we will come,” he said.

Because the weather Tuesday will not echo Monday’s quiet nature. A note for drivers, it is illegal to block any roadway.
