A Green Country man ran 52 miles in two days and just crossed the finish line Wednesday.
He did it to raise money for his co-workers who go above and beyond to do something good for the elderly patients at nursing homes and care facilities.
Todd was running off and on for 48 hours. He’s tired and his legs hurt, but if he can make a difference for his coworkers, this is all worth it.
The windows at Cearu Medical resort were lined with residents, and handmade signs held up by staff members, eager for Todd Beesley to swing by and start the last leg of a two day journey.
“The goal is four miles every four hours for 48 hours," said Kimberly Green. "He’s been running 5 miles.”
Todd is the HR Director for Diakonos Group which owns long term care facilities all over the state.
He is running the five miles every four hours for two straight days to raise money for staff’s “Fun” Committee.
“Every March, people from around the world are doing this challenge to raise money for their favorite charity," Beesley said.
Two years ago, he raised $6,000 and hopes to do the same or more this year.
Todd started this run Monday in Edmond and has stopped at different care centers along the way.
He ran through the pouring rain Wednesday morning at Turkey Mountain.
"They do so much all year to enrich the lives of our patients," he said. "I wanted to give back to them.”
COO Kimberly Green said the money Todd raises from sponsors goes toward their “FUN’ committee, aimed at caring for staff so they can then care for patients and residents.
“All that money goes to celebrating our staff. It could be big parties. We buy school supplies for all of our employees, or car seats and stock pantries, whatever they need," Green said.
As Todd came around the corner to finish his journey, he said every step was worth the joy of giving back.
