Chilly Weather Settles Across Green Country

Expect chilly weather as you head out the door on Monday morning. 

Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Stephen Nehrenz:

It’s spring break week for a lot of kids across Green Country, but the weather sure doesn’t feel like spring.

An unseasonably chilly airmass continues to settle across the area on Monday. Even with some areas of sunshine and north winds getting lighter, our temperature won’t warm up too much. Highs will hold in the 40s across the majority of eastern Oklahoma, approaching 50 in extreme southeastern Oklahoma.

A weak upper-level disturbance will travel across Oklahoma on Tuesday. Impacts look to be very minimal for Green Country, but this system could spit out some showers or even some mixed precipitation to the southwest of our viewing area across south-central Oklahoma. That system will likely provide some additional clouds and even some light showers to our southern counties on Tuesday. We’ll be a hair warmer Tuesday afternoon but still below normal with highs generally in the lower 50s.

Wednesday provides us with a bigger warm-up as much stronger south winds kick back in. That’ll usher our highs back into the 60s on Wednesday, though fire danger will climb with those gusty south winds. But another strong cold front is looming.

Thursday could be a fairly stormy day across eastern Oklahoma as moisture and some instability build out ahead of that next cold front. Scattered showers and storms are likely, with a few strong to severe storms possible Thursday afternoon and evening. That cold front will quickly put an end to rain and storms Thursday night, with much colder air rushing back in. We’ll be back to sunshine on St. Patrick’s Day Friday, but we’ll be blustery and back below normal with highs falling back into the 40s. And for you early gardeners, beware: Some additional freezes appear likely this upcoming weekend. We’ll keep you updated!
