The board for Tulsa Public Schools will vote Monday on a pay negotiated with two unions representing teachers and support workers.
The agreement calls for a $2 an hour raise for support workers, and an increase to retirement contributions for teachers that would be the equivalent of a 1% raise.
“It helps teachers because that’s more money in your pocket, and less money coming out of our paycheck,” said Shawna Mott-Wright, the President of TCTA.
“This is life altering, money in your pocket, you can feel the difference kind of pay raise,” Nancy Leonard, President of the AFT Tulsa Local 6049, said.
The raises will come up for a vote Monday night. The board's approval would create a mid-year pay raise for all teachers and the district's 3,000 support employees.
Their pay starts at $9.32 an hour, before the raise, and the district is chronically short of workers.
The raise would be retroactive to January for support workers, while teachers would see the increase in their May paycheck.
There is also a $5,000 increase in pay for apprentice teachers, and adjustments for extra duty pay.
