A group of students are using their spirit week to raise money for a good cause.
Jenks High School Student Council members raised money at their puppy yoga event. They say the money will be donated to the Jenks Community Food Bank.
The Puppy Yoga was a forty-minute yoga session hosted by a Jenks yoga instructor.
Community members paid for their yoga sessions and all of the money went toward the cause. Sarah Fox says when she heard about the event she knew it would be something she would enjoy.
"A family friend is involved in student council for Jenks and I am also a Jenks Trojan alumni,” Fox said.
She says it was a great opportunity to support the school and to have yoga with puppies.
Students say each year they get to pick a different charity or organization in the Jenks community that needs support.
Chloe Scott, the student council philanthropy officer, is in charge of planning the annual student-led fundraiser called dub week which stands for donate your best.
"Dub week started in 2018 and it’s basically like a philanthropy week that the student council runs."
Even though dub week starts at the end of April, students have events planned throughout the entire month.
The student's goal this year is to raise $50,000 for The Jenks Food Bank.
"We have a separate student body leadership class. We spent the entire semester allocating sponsors and donations and making events that can help us raise money," Scott said.
Kyan Howell is a student at Jenks High School and he said he came to support his classmates.
"Me and my sister wanted to do something fun and so this was something we could do early in the morning and it was super fun," Howell said.
