Two eagle eggs have hatched in a nest near the George Miksch Sutton Avian Research Center near Bartlesville.
Thanks to a camera we now have a close up look at the baby eagles!
"It's one of my favorite parts of the day just coming and checking out these eagles," said education program manager, Daniel Harris.
But nothing compares to looking up close using one of the research centers' cameras sitting above the nest.
"With an amazing as a view I have here, that eagle camera just gives us that close up personal view and you really get to know them personally," he said.
Daniel Harris said this specific nest has been here for two years, and two baby eagles just hatched.
He said they use the cameras to keep track of the health of the eagles in our area and the ecosystem.
"A long time ago, we had some problems with some pesticides, and the eagles, the raptors, told us 'hey we've got a problem, we aren't able to survive out here.' We were able to track down the problem and now we can tell they are thriving. They are doing so well," he said.
He said 30 years ago, there were no native eagles in Oklahoma, and now there are 300 active nests.
The eagles typically lay eggs in January and the eggs will hatch in March or April.
Harris said by watching them on the camera, they can monitor and make sure eagles have a future in Oklahoma.
"We've got these amazing lakes and rivers and streams, and eagles love to be by the water if they can get a nice supply of fish and they can get a tall tree, that's a perfect place for an eagles' nest and a perfect place to call home," he said.
