The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and multiple other agencies believe they have identified two people who were found shot to death in Pittsburg County in 1995 after a joint investigation.
The investigation resulted in the OSBI announcing Monday that they believe the two found dead in a wooded area near Highway 69 are Brian Burr, 23 and his wife Rachel Burr, 21.
Their bodies were originally discovered on April 9, 1995, and authorities said they were killed by gunshot wounds, according to the OSBI.
In April 2020, Pittsburg County Sheriff Chris Morris requested assistance from the OSBI to help identify the couple.
The OSBI said agents collected DNA samples from relatives and conducted interviews in Texas and Ohio in an attempt to identify the couple.
The OSBI said multiple agencies participated in the investigation, including the Texas Rangers, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, University of North Texas Center for Human Identification, Parabon Nano Labs, Inc. and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The OSBI asks anyone with any information about this 1995 cold case to contact them at 800-522-8017 or email tips@osbi.ok.gov.
