A Jennings third grader helped the Junior High team win a baseball game after he got the chance to step up to the plate.
Reb Bledsaw has been the team manager for the past two and a half years for Jennings Junior High in basketball, football and baseball.
"I support them, I carry the bags, I give them water, I carry the ball bucket," he said.
Reb had been asking coach Derrick Meador if he could get his chance to hit during a game, and in Jenning's game versus Glencoe, he finally got his moment.
"To see him be successful in that moment, I was nervous for him when he went up to the plate because you never know in baseball what's going to happen, but he stepped up to the challenge and made plays," Derrick said.
Reb was walked in four pitches, and then made his way around the bases, sliding into home.
"The guy ran up to tag me, I slid under his glove, and Mr. Meador said it was the slide of the year," Reb said.
The team ran up to the plate and all rallied around Reb, many people not knowing just how special that moment was for him as it was his only chance to hit on a team this year.
"I didn't get to play baseball this year because my mom didn't really have the money for it," Reb said.
Reb says he couldn't play on a little league team because his family needed the money for gas.
He says while he won't forget his slide into home plate, he can't wait to grow up and officially join the Jennings baseball team.
"He will be on the team in a few years so I'm looking forward to that," Derrick said.
"To get to play like every single game," Reb said.
"Reb says as soon as baseball season is over, he will have his eyes on the next sport. He plans to be the football team manager in the fall.
