Green Country Teacher Recognized By The Oklahoma Foundation For Excellence

A Green Country teacher received a medal of excellence through the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence for her commitment to her students.

Barbie Jackson is a STEM teacher for kindergarten through fifth-grade students at Limestone Technology Academy in Sand Springs.

Jackson says her favorite project is to assign her students to watch caterpillars turn into monarch butterflies and track their migration to Mexico.

Along with the award, Jackson received $5,000.

"With this extra money, I get to go on a weeklong tour in Mexico where the monarchs migrate and go up into the sanctuary for a week and experience it firsthand," said Jackson.

Jackson said she plans on bringing back photos and videos so the children can experience a part of the world they may never get to see.
