Kellyville High School students got a look at the consequences of driving drunk. Police Chief Shelly Garrett has been doing this at the school right before prom and graduation, for seven years.
"We just show them from the minute they make the bad decision to drive after drinking, and we just go through the roles of what's going to happen next," she said.
First, they put on drunk goggles and did a field sobriety test, and then some driving tests.
Then, a car wreck was staged where they watched as first responders pulled their classmates from the wreck, even pretending to arrest one of them.
They also heard from victims of DUI crashes about the heartbreak and the impact they have.
"Hopefully they will see that this is really important, and they are paying attention," she said.
Lindsey Russell teaches at the school and said she hopes what the students saw and learned will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
"It's important to make good choices because you never know when its going to be the last bad choice you make."
At the end of the program, the students were able to attend court and witness as someone was sentenced for a DUI charge.
