Parents said it's important for students to learn about several careers early in childhood because it helps them focus in school to reach their goals.
It's the first time Eliot Elementary held its Dream Big Career Day, but with the help of several parents, there were booths set up for a wide range of opportunities.
PTA President Emmy Baird said most of the booths were set up by parents whose children are students here.
"It's never too young – you’re never too old to find a dream and go after it,” Baird said. “We're trying to showcase some friends and family and even some of the community members who have jobs or hobbies that they love and we want to share it with kids so they can start thinking about what they want to do.”
Students received a "passport" when they arrived with each of the booths listed inside. They received a stamp at each booth they stopped to learn about.
"Some of them say 'I'm kind,' or 'I'm courageous,' or 'I'm generous,' or maybe it's a silly face. But hopefully, they'll be able to look at that in the future and just think of all the fun things that could be possibilities for them,” Baird said.
The booths also offered interactive hands-on learning, which parents said is vital to decision-making.
"We know kids are engaged in hands-on activities. When they can come to events like these they can put their hands on materials. They can learn about these careers. It brings it to life,” parent Jackie DuPont said.
Organizers said they plan to make this an annual event to help students decide or be positive about their career choices.
