McAlester parents, Timothy and Shelby Hamilton, are thankful their children are ok after police say a drunk driver came within feet of crashing into their home, right where their kids were sleeping.
McAlester police say Rochelle High was involved in a crash and, while officers were on their way to where the crash was reported, High crashed again. This time in the Hamilton's yard.
"She hit our neighbors mailbox and then came through and hit my truck," Timothy Hamilton said.
Investigators say High was intoxicated and driving a stolen car when she crashed into the Hamilton's pick-up.
Police say High refused to give her name and take a breathalyzer test at the scene.
Now bricks are scattered throughout their yard and the Hamilton’s are counting their blessings the crash wasn't worse.
If Hamilton's truck wasn't there, High would've hit their home, right where their children were sleeping.
"We are lucky everything happened, how it happened with the outcome. The kids are safe, that's all that matters," Hamilton said.
Investigators say High faces charges for DUI, driving with a suspended license and assaulting a police officer.
Hamilton is nervous now to let his kids play in the front yard and wants people to think twice before getting behind the wheel if they are intoxicated.
"Just be more cautious, get a ride, or call someone. It's not worth taking lives over," Hamilton said.
The family created a Go Fund Me fundraiser to help cover the costs of the damage.
