Glenpool Hosts Law Enforcement Job Fair

Law enforcement agencies from all over Green Country have been struggling in recent months to hire people. That's why several agencies held a job fair Tuesday in Glenpool.

Nearly a dozen agencies were here at the job fair. They want people to know jobs in law enforcement include being on patrol, working with canines, becoming a 911 dispatcher, and community policing.

Jacob Ohern said working in law enforcement has always been a dream of his and when he found out about the job fair, he knew this was a sign to get more information.

"I know quite a few people in law enforcement, and I’ve just always been interested in it," Ohern said.

Police departments and sheriff's offices all over Green Country have been offering sign-on bonuses, raises and even dropping some of their educational requirements, just to get more people to apply. Most agencies are severely understaffed.

Glenpool Police Corporal Taylor Mitchell said this was their first law enforcement job fair in Glenpool.

"A lot of departments including our department are trying to back fill a lot of spots. There's been a big wave of retirements lately from a lot of the older school guys who have left and so a lot of departments are looking to hire a lot of people right now," Mitchel said.

Mitchell said they hope to invite other agencies outside of Tulsa County for their next one.

"We really want to get out and start meeting people and hopefully getting people a little bit more comfortable and a little bit more knowledgeable about what it takes to become a law enforcement officer," Mitchell said.

Mitchell said he hopes people want to apply.

"Never been able to push myself to get out and actually do it so hoping you know, at least walking through the door is the first step. Hopefully I can do what I need to do to go along with that, get into it and help out where I can," Ohern said.
