Guthrie Green Prepares For Annual Earth Day Celebration

Guthrie Green is hosting an Earth Day event on Saturday to celebrate the planet we all come home.

Earth Day is all about celebrating our planet and celebrating healthy, sustainable living, and that's the message behind the event.

It's hosted by the Oklahoma Earth Coalition, including OK Roots Music, the Carrie Dickerson Foundation and the Tulsa Area Arkansas River Association.

Marilyn McColloch is the foundation's Executive Director and an event organizer.

Earth Day started in 1970 in America, but is now observed all over the world.

"The first Earth Day began as a celebration of our planet as a place to protect, and it's our garden. It's our Garden of Eden in space and we need to take care of it," McColloch said.

The family-fun festival in Tulsa will have lots of activities, from circus arts to a Book Mobile and science experiments.

There will also be educational displays where you can learn about pollenator gardens, honey bees, and natural gardening techniques.

You can listen to live music while exploring different vendors from crafters, to jewelry makers, and potters.

You can grab a bite to eat from sustainable food trucks like Comida Sol de Vida and Inheritance Juicery.

"So we're really looking forward to a great day for everyone to come together, we want to build community. We want to help everyone feel like there's important work for us all to do and if we do it together, we can make a difference," McColloch said.

The Earth Day celebration is at Guthrie Green on Saturday, April, 22, from 3 to 8 p.m.
