The Oklahoma Senate has passed a bill that would allow students to have excused absences for mental health counseling or occupational therapy.

The absences would be excused as long as the parent or guardian submits a written request to the school beforehand.

Currently, students are usually allowed nine unexcused absences per semester and are failed on the tenth.

The measure will now go back to the house to consider Senate amendments.
