A Rogers County woman who admitted to drinking 'a liter of alcohol a day' during her pregnancy is back in prison, after prosecutors said she violated her suspended sentence several times in the last few years.

Shanece Wilson pled guilty to violating her probation and the judge ordered her to serve the remaining six and a half years of her sentence.

Rogers County Prosecutors said addiction is a sad and scary thing, but Wilson has exhausted all of her options outside of prison and the judge agreed.

The assistant prosecutor in the case told the judge, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."

"We've tried and tried to lead her to water and even others have basically held her head under water to get her to drink and she just won't do it. She just won't get the help that everybody has thrown at her for years,” said Assistant DA Kali Strain. “Thirteen is the number of times that people other than herself had given her opportunities to begin her recovery and be successful in her recovery, and she chose not to do that.”

Strain pulled recent jail phone calls between Wilson and her boyfriend.

"She's telling her boyfriend, ‘You can't call me your girlfriend and I can't call you, my boyfriend. You have to say that you are a father figure to me, and you are here to support me because I can't have a relationship. So, you have to pretend to be that.’ And then they talk about how once she's released, they're going to ‘celebrate her freedom’ is what they called it and they talked about pretty explicitly what they were going to do, but also mentioning that they were going to continue the alcohol use and the drug use to celebrate her freedom and her getting out of jail and that she can't talk about that anymore because the coordinator will find out and so she is making plans on how to scam the system,” said Strain.

Wilson was given probation in June of 2019, after her son was born in 2017 with fetal alcohol syndrome and the umbilical cord tested positive for cocaine.

“This is one of them that we fought hard on. All of this happened before this little boy was born and just because of the decisions that she made this little boy is stuck with the life that he has and the delays that he has and the troubles that he's going to have to overcome,” said Strain.

The judge gave her a seven-year suspended sentence and told her not to buy or drink any alcohol.

Documents said a few months later, Wilson tested positive for alcohol, meth, and marijuana; and she's gotten several more violations including public intoxication.

Records show Wilson had already given up custody of a daughter, before she got pregnant with the boy.

Police said Wilson cut herself while pregnant, saying she was trying to kill herself, "Because I'm pregnant and I don't want to be."

"They can't speak for themselves. They can't fight for themselves. These are the most vulnerable people in our society and hopefully today we've given them a voice,” said Strain.

Wilson has been in jail since February 1 and will get credit for that time. She will have to serve 85 percent of her sentence before coming up for parole.

She will also have the opportunity to complete some rehab programs while in DOC.
