TULSA, Okla. - Another cool morning is ahead before shower and storm chances return to Green Country.
Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:
A complex of thunderstorms that developed on Wednesday evening across the high plains of Colorado and Texas continues moving across western Oklahoma this morning. This complex of storms will approach the I-35 corridors before weakening and should dissipate. A few showers could survive east near our area later in the day on Thursday. A more significant storm opportunity arrives later tonight when another storm complex will develop to our west and move into the area. Heavy thunderstorms including a limited severe weather threat will remain with the system. Locally heavy rainfall will be a concern. The complex should approach our area near or after midnight and will continue through early Friday morning across at least the northern half of the state. There will also be some scattered showers or small clusters of storms across southern Oklahoma as well during the early morning hours. Friday morning into the afternoon a cold front will approach the area from the north and begin shifting most of the moisture near and south of the metro after the morning hours. Additional thunderstorms will develop across southeastern Oklahoma Friday afternoon including the potential for severe weather threats. The front will continue to drop south and move out of the state late Friday evening. A surface ridge of high pressure building across the central plains will bring a much cooler and drier air mass into the state. Weekend morning lows will drop into the upper 40s and lower 50s, mostly lower 50s in the metro, with Saturday afternoon highs in the lower 70s. Sunday afternoon features highs in the mid to upper 70s. The upper airflow will bring a few weak disturbances nearby that should develop a few clouds on occasion.
Most of the early part of next week features temperatures near normal with showers or storm chances remaining to the west of our immediate area. A gradual warming trend and increasing low level moisture will be likely by the middle to the end of next week with additional thunderstorm chances returning by Wednesday through the latter half of the week.
Temperatures this morning will start in the upper 50s and lower 60s with patchy fog in valley locations. Daytime highs will reach the upper 70s near 80. South winds return at 10 to 15 mph. Thunderstorms are likely Friday morning with lows in the 60s. As the front progresses southward tomorrow, north winds return at 15 to 25 mph with daytime highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s in Northern Oklahoma and slightly warmer in the southeastern third of the state Friday afternoon.
Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
Alan Crone
