Ascension St. John To Host Grand Opening To Celebrate Upgrades To ICU

Ascension St. John is hosting a grand opening on Wednesday morning to celebrate upgrades to its ICU.

The Medical Center at 21st and Utica has 18 new beds for cardiovascular patients and the ICU rooms offer double the space of the old ones.

Staff says the changes will improve comfort and mental health for patients, visitors and team members.

"We actually don't have windows downstairs. So, even having the added light and the brighter colors and the nice blue color scheme we're excited for it. It's going to make everyone happier," said Sarah Johnson-McGill, an RN Manager at Ascension St. John.

Phase 2 of the project, which is expected to be completed in March of 2024, will add 18 surgical ICU beds.
