TULSA, Okla. - A foggy morning is underway across Green Country
Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:
Patchy fog is developing on Thursday morning in some of the areas that received shower activity on Wednesday. Visibility will drop in some valleys, especially near bodies of water during the early-morning hours. Otherwise, some sunshine is likely early on Thursday before increasing clouds in the afternoon. A few isolated showers or storms will remain possible across eastern Oklahoma with higher chances to our west. Afternoon highs will be in the lower 80s.
Another storm complex developed on Wednesday night across Eastern New Mexico and the high plains of Texas. This system is moving east to southeast on Thursday morning into western Oklahoma and will approach the central region of the state today before weakening. A few scattered showers and storms will remain possible ahead of this decaying complex later today across eastern sections of the state, but the overall coverage will be much lower compared to Wednesday. I'll keep a low-end chance for a few showers or storms both Thursday and Friday, but the threat of any organized storm system continues to appear very low across eastern Oklahoma. The weekend features slightly drier air across the far eastern half of the state circulating around a very large area of high pressure centered over the upper Midwest. This will keep any storm mentions very low during the weekend. This also will lower our morning temps a few degrees but keep daytime highs near or slightly above normal. Early next week the pattern begins changing and will allow more ample chances for additional storms, including a few storm complexes to move near sections of northeastern Oklahoma.
The upper air pattern remains with mostly weak winds aloft across eastern Oklahoma. A mid-level ridge of high pressure extends from a small part of the southern plains northeast into the upper Midwest. A pair of lows remains with one across the southeastern U.S. and the other across the western half of the nation. This weak Omega block today and tomorrow transitions to more of a Rex block this weekend as the ridge shifts eastward directly north of the southeastern low. The pattern across the southern plains this weekend should keep most of the stronger systems to our west. Early next week, the blocking pattern changes but no major storm system is expected. Some mostly weak forcing will bring more chances by the middle of the week.
Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
Alan Crone
