Oklahoma lawmakers have passed a bill to give state employees six weeks of paid maternity leave after the birth or adoption of a child.
State Senator Jessica Garvin says it's one way to help families and retain employees who might otherwise work in the private sector.
"Women are leaving the workforce at alarming rates across the country so this is just one more incentive to help recruit and retain employees to state agencies that are high quality so that we can improve government efficiency," said Senator Garvin.
Any employee who has been with the state for at least two years is eligible.
The bill will no head to the house for a vote.
