AAA projects more than half a million Oklahomans will travel over Memorial Day weekend.
AAA Travel Advisor Michelle Stinnett said she expects it to be as busy as pre-pandemic levels.
"That has made a huge difference in travel with the vaccinations restrictions being lifted, with the testing restrictions being lifted, all of that has just got everybody really out there and so that is a huge, huge part of it. Everybody feels a little safer this year,” she added.
Stinnett said a majority of Oklahomans who are traveling plan to drive to their destinations. She said the best advice she can give drivers is to hit the roads early. AAA estimates Friday will be the busiest travel day, with peak travel on the roads between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Stinnett said drivers should make sure their vehicle is ready before leaving by getting an oil change, checking their car’s battery and tires.
Stinnett said those who are flying should check their flight status before leaving for the airport and get there at least two hours early because lines will be longer than usual.
"Prepare for the unexpected is the best thing and just try to have a good time this weekend, but prepare for everything being crowded, longer lines, and delays with some things," Stinnett added.
