Domestic Violence Intervention Services Partners With Tulsa Drillers For 'Knock Out Violence' Campaign

Domestic Violence Intervention Services (DVIS) is once again partnering with the Tulsa Drillers for its 20th annual 'Knock Out Violence' campaign. The partnership is a fundraiser for DVIS, and it's a way for people in the community to get involved in trying to solve domestic violence issues.

While there are traditional sponsors for the fundraiser, anyone can get involved by pledging money to DVIS for each homerun the Drillers hit over the course of the season. Alicia Slyter, DVIS's development assistant believes this is a great way to get the community involved because domestic violence can affect anyone.

"It's an issue that everyone needs to work together to solve so they thought baseball is a pretty universally loved sport, America's past time. They thought we should partner with the Tulsa Drillers to put on this fundraiser," Slyter said.

Slyter said that domestic violence rates in the community are still too high and that DVIS hopes the campaign will help bring more awareness to the issue to help bring the rates down.

"Unfortunately, domestic violence rates in our community continue to rise, and we know that it does not affect a particular group of people. It goes across all socioeconomic statuses, race, gender. Unfortunately, a lot of people are affected by it," Slyter said.

DVIS will be the featured non-profit at the Drillers game on June 9th. A portion of the proceeds from tickets for that game will go to DVIS.
