A man is dead, and another is in critical condition after Tulsa Police said two teens led officers on a chase in a stolen SUV and crashed into another car.

Police said two teens are in custody, and officers are searching for a third teen.

Officers drove around the area of 68th and Memorial asking businesses that may have caught the crash on camera for surveillance footage.

A girl who works across from where the crash happened told us she’s frightened. She saw the entire incident and described it as shocking and devastating.

On her way into work, Gabrielle Harrington heard something that made her stomach drop.

“I was at the stop light and it sounded like, like you could feel it. And it didn’t sound like a car crash,” said Gabrielle.

She watched out the windows at work as officers came from all directions.

“They all swarmed in. And I just, I saw two kids on the ground. I mean I saw three, but it was two kids and a guy, and he was like covered from like head down with blood,” said Gabrielle. “Seeing the car like up in flames too cause it caught on fire. One of the cars caught on fire. They had to put it out.”

Police said the incident began when nearby flock cameras notified them of a stolen vehicle near 73rd and Memorial. When police arrived, they said three juveniles were inside the stolen SUV.

The three teens got out and started running around the complex as officers chased after them, police said.

Police said the 14-year-old passenger and 15-year-old driver got back in the stolen gray SUV, blew through a red light at 71st, and continued north.

That's when the teens slammed into the side of another vehicle that was turning left at 68th and Memorial, police said.

“Their choices, their actions today led to this catastrophic event,” said Capt. Richard Meulenberg, Tulsa Police Department.

Police said a 22-year passenger of the other vehicle died on scene and the 21-year-old driver went to the hospital.

“It was about 30 minutes to an hour when we found out that someone had passed. And I just, it’s just such an unbelievable thing to hear. It’s like wow someone just passed right there,” said Gabrielle Harrington.

Captain Meulenberg said because the suspects are juveniles, they’re having to treat this case differently.

“We’d have to look at all the facts of the case. This is gonna have to be something that the district attorney's office will determine if this falls under a youthful offender statute. So, we have to look more into the stolen car, what they were running from, if there’s other crimes involved,” explained Captain Meulenberg.

He said the area around the mall is notorious for having dangerous intersections.

“We can all say that 71st street and 61st for years have been considered some of the most dangerous intersections in the state. If not one of the top ten most dangerous in the country. We continue to get reports of injuries from these injuries and accidents,” said Captain Meulenberg.

Gabrielle said people speed through the area all the time.

“It’s so bad. The people who come through here, I mean it gets so loud in the store. It makes it to where we can’t hear people at our window,” said Gabrielle.

Gabrielle said the whole situation is very sad. “I just, I feel so bad for the families of both, like both of the vehicles. You know it’s like really tragic,” said Gabrielle.

Police said the 21-year-old driver of the other vehicle is at a Tulsa hospital in critical condition.
