Oklahoma Man Taken Into Custody Over Wife's Death In Bixby

A man suspected of killing his wife in Bixby is now in custody after a police chase in Pryor.

Police say the suspect, Travis Ballard, led Pryor police on a chase and was arrested after crashing, then running onto the high school baseball field.

We've now learned the victim is Kara Ballard. Bixby Police say Ballard's daughter called 911 Sunday night because she was concerned about her mom and believed she was in danger. Police found Ballard dead in a car at Washington Irving Park in Bixby.

News On 6 obtained a cell phone video of Pryor Police arresting Travis Ballard. Bixby police say while investigating the murder, they received information that Travis Ballard was in the Pryor area.

Police say Kara Ballard had texted her daughter Sunday night, saying that she was with her husband, Travis Ballard, near the Arkansas River in Bixby. Kara Ballard's daughter called the police, asking them to look for Ballard's car in that area.

"Officers checked the area, attempting to check the welfare, as we were asked to do. Officers checked the area and located the vehicle and inside the vehicle, we located a deceased female,” said Chief Todd Blish with Bixby Police.

Investigators haven't released any details about how the victim died or a motive.

"Our detectives are currently gathering statements and getting the information needed to continue the investigation,” said Blish. "It is very rare we have these types of crimes in Bixby. I think last year we only had two. Any time this happens, especially in the Bixby communities, one of the safest communities in Oklahoma, we take it very seriously and we are going to go through every step we have to bring the case to a close."

Bixby Police say they are handling the murder investigation, but OSBI has been called in to assist with collecting evidence.
