Tulsa Juneteenth is taking over historic Greenwood Avenue for its three-day festival.

Organizers were out Thursday morning setting up the main stage and vendor tents for Tulsa Juneteenth, a festival that serves as a celebration of freedom.

"It is a place that we can come together and really just celebrate our freedom. Freedom to be who we are, freedom to just have a great time, and to celebrate with one another," said Tulsa Juneteenth executive director Lauren Corbitt.

The festival features vendors, a pitch competition, an art exhibit, wellness experiences such as a 5K, yoga, tai chi, meditation, and live music on both Friday and Saturday night.

Corbitt said, "We have tried to provide resources and things to the community through this event, and for us, it is just allowing the community to see the things that are important in our community for our furtherment and for our progression and to do those things in a fun and festive way."

She said having a festival that celebrates the end of slavery in the heart of Black Wall Street also sends a message. "We host this event on historic Greenwood Ave. because it is important to us," Corbitt continued saying, "We want to bring people back to this space to remind them of how far we have come."

The main stage and vendors are set up along Greenwood Avenue between OSU-Tulsa and Vernon AME Church.
