A thief took advantage of the chaos of the weekend storm and broke into a Tulsa salon and stole thousands of dollars worth of hair equipment.
Tulsa Police said they are investigating several business break-ins as criminals know with the power out, security cameras may not be working. At The Salon on Harvard, near 31st and Harvard, the only source of light is through the windows, as co-owner Randi Marshall looks through the dark, empty drawers at her station.
"Took all of my scissors -- 25 years of collecting scissors, I had over 10 pair. Two scissor pouches in here, blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons of all sizes,” Marshall said.
Marshall said even when the power is restored, stylists may not be able to work right away.
"We only make money when we're standing behind the chair. And somebody took that away from all of our stylists that work here by taking all of the tools that that they use daily to pay their bills,” Marshall said.
"Somebody knew what they were doing and they knew what they wanted,” Co-owner Kim Freeman said.
She says the alarm system still worked right after the storm, but they don't have surveillance video. The owners said they have great insurance and are on the lookout for anyone trying to sell their equipment. Having been open for less than a year, the owners said this is especially hard for their new business.
"It's really heartbreaking and disheartening when you realize that people would take advantage in a situation like this because of the storm,” Freeman said.
The owners said they are changing some things going forward, by making the front door more secure, and adding battery-powered security cameras, so they can still capture video when the power goes out.
