Oklahoma State Representative Mickey Dollens Requests Study To Protect Citizen-Led Ballot Initiatives

Oklahoma State Representative Mickey Dollens is requesting an interim study to look at what he calls "a threat to the cornerstone of our democratic system."

Dollens says recent bills in the state have been introduced to 'stifle' citizen-led ballot initiatives, which is how state questions get on the ballot.

According to Dollens, some legislation in Oklahoma and other states would increase financial barriers for grassroots efforts and slow the proceedings for state questions.

"The power to shape our public policy includes the citizens of Oklahoma, extending beyond solely elected officials and special interest groups," said Dollens, in a statement.

Dollens did not cite any specific legislation in his statement.

Interim studies are approved by the Speaker of the House.
