OSU Center For Health Sciences Invites Trick-or-Treaters To Campus

More than 300 elementary school students dressed up in costumes and went trick-or-treating across the OSU Center for Health Sciences campus.

Faculty, staff, and students handed out candy and treats at 21 stations around the grounds. It’s Halloween! For kids like Londyn and Bobby…that’s a big deal.

“My favorite part of Halloween is getting candy,” Londyn said.

On Tuesday, they’re able to get candy, but not by knocking door to door.

“We go get candy from the OSU hospital,” said Bobby.

They are only 2 of more than 350 students from Edison Field Elementary School invited to trick or treat at the OSU Center for Health Sciences. Monica Collington with the center says the campus does many outreach events with the community throughout the year.

“These are students that might not get introduced to a safe Halloween environment or a fun day out, and so it's a field trip, it’s also being a good neighbor, being a good community member, because at OSU that’s very important to our mission is to be engaged with the community,” she said.

And while it looks like the campus is just offering goodies, Collington says it’s more than candy.

“That’s really the ‘why’ for us to always have our doors open to the community, certainly to students, to introduce them to education and science careers, and healthcare careers, that's a big part of what we do here,” she said.

More than fifteen departments across the campus help make this day special for the kids.

“Their faces, their costumes, you can tell that they really get excited about the decorations, and then some of our team here on campus are dressed up in costumes, so you can tell that it really means a lot to the teachers and the students,” Collington said.

And Londyn and Bobby are hoping their candy bag gets filled up to the brim.
