Some Cub Scouts in Owasso are writing letters to people overseas in the military who won’t get to come home for the holidays.
Cub Scouts in Pack 888 in Owasso found all kinds of ways to tell veterans just how much they appreciate them.
"Dear veterans, thank you for all you do,” said one child.
Some kids told the service members they wished they could be home this time of year.
"Thank you for your service,” said Aaron Mason, one of the Cub Scouts. “We all appreciate what you do. From Pack 888 from Aaron, we wish you can come for Thanksgiving, and God bless you."
And others wished them a happy holiday season.
"To you from Pack 888, hi, my name is Isaac,” said Isaac Cole. “Thank you for your service in the U.S. Military. I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas."
One of the pack’s leaders says the goal is to make sure kids learn about the sacrifices made by people who serve in the military.
"I know this time of year, it's very difficult to serve and be away from family during the holidays, so we want our scouts just to be able to show their appreciation for the men and women in uniform,” said Ryan McCoy, the Pack Committee Chair for Pack 888.
He hopes the kids all learn valuable lessons about helping those around you.
"I think it's really important for the kids to learn some pretty solid values, to understand what it means to give back to their communities, to serve others, and scouting gives them that opportunity,” said McCoy.
"Thank you for your service,” said Landon, one of the kids. “From Landon, Pack 888.”
The Cub Scouts do this letter writing every year, and their leader says they always look forward to going to it.
