Tulsa Public Schools responded to the threats received at both Nathan Hale Middle School and Central High School on Monday.
A 12-year-old Nathan Hale Middle School student was taken into custody after police say he brought an Airsoft pistol to school on Monday.
Police said the student, a 13-year-old girl, noticed a 12-year-old seventh-grade student with a pistol and notified authorities. Police said the student provided a good description of the suspect and authorities were able to locate him.
TPS sent out a statement to families of Hale Middle School on Monday:
Today, Hale Middle School was placed on a precautionary lockdown based on an anonymous tip. The Tulsa Police Department and Tulsa Public School Campus Police team responded immediately, conducted a sweep of the school. Following a search, a Campus Police officer found a weapon in a student’s bag. Our team immediately isolated the student and secured the weapon and the student involved was arrested. At no time were other students in danger.
We are grateful to our law enforcement partners for responding so quickly and so thoroughly to keep our students safe. It is important to know that students who bring weapons or drugs to school or who make social media threats can face incredibly serious consequences, including arrest and criminal charges. Students who bring guns to school will be arrested and charged, without exception.
