A Tulsa man was arrested after being accused of embezzling more than $9,000 from a Sand Springs bank.
Sand Springs Police say Jackson Hale withdrew money from customer accounts and put it in his account.
Even though the customers did get all their money back, police say it’s important to always check your account and report anything out of the ordinary immediately.
Tulsa County Deputies arrested Hale, who’s accused of taking customers’ money and money from his bank drawer and putting it in his pocket.
Customers say it’s sad someone would do something like this.
"That's terrible,” said Freddie Manwarring. “That's downright terrible, sure is. He needs to be put in jail."
Police say Hale embezzled the money for three months between September and November of 2021.
"Banks have security systems in place where they can catch this stuff now a whole lot quicker than before,” said Deputy Chief Todd Enzbrenner with Sand Springs Police. “In this particular incident, how it was come to light was the person who was victimized checked his bank statement."
Enzbrenner says staying on top of your bank account is important- and if something is out of place, contact your bank right away.
"Instead of just taking your bank statements that you get either in your email or in the mail and tear them up and throw them away, scrutinize them,” said Enzbrenner. “Look to make sure what is on your bank statement is what you actually did."
Customers say they are glad banks are insured and they don’t lose money when something like this happens- but it’s still upsetting to know someone would want to take their money.
"Those things happen,” said Lexie Johnson. “Bad people get into places; those things just happen. But they take care of it. People get in trouble. It's sad they take the attitude to steal from others."
