A shooting late Monday is now the first homicide of 2024 in the City of Tulsa, according to the police department.
Tulsa Police said a 12-year-old boy was shot and killed around 10:30 p.m. at a home near E. 14th St. and S. Xanthus Place.
His body was found in the entryway of the home as officers arrived at the scene. Investigators determined the home had been rented through VRBO by an out-of-state adult for a birthday party.
TPD said between five and six underaged people and one adult teenager were at the home during the New Year's Day shooting.
Police said witnesses reported hearing gunshots while the 12-year-old victim appeared intoxicated on the porch. Numerous shell casings and bullet strikes to the house were found and Tulsa Police speculate the shooting happened in the street.
After speaking with witnesses, police said the victim is not believed to be the intended target of the shooting and that two other teenagers at the scene ages 15 and 16 said their home had been a shooting target on two separate occasions last year.
Police said this is not a random act, but a targeted attack.
