The City of Tulsa will start a new road project on 11th Street just as the finishing touches of major construction at 11th and Lewis are completed.
The city plans to rehabilitate 11th between the intersections of Lewis and Harvard, with work beginning as soon as May.
The estimated $2 million dollar project will take a year to complete.
Henry Som de Cerff, a City of Tulsa Design Engineer, said it’s important maintenance work.
“By doing projects like this, where you mill off about 2 inches of asphalt and repair the cracks underneath and replace the asphalt cap, that helps maintain both the surface and the underlying structure,” he said.
The work is going out to bid soon. The city plans to replace a 12’ water line underneath the road at the same time and rebuild the street much as it is now. Som de Cerff said there would be limited sidewalk improvements made but not much work outside the existing curbline. He said the existing lane design would remain, except for changes to parking and bike lanes in front of the Campbell Hotel.
Years of construction have wrapped up just west of this project, with streetscaping and roadwork that ends at Atlanta Avenue. There are future plans to rehabilitate 11th east of Harvard and west of Lewis once the next project is completed in 2025.
