A centuries-old art form is bringing people together for Valentine's Day.
Tulsa Stained Glass is hosting several stained glass art classes in celebration of the holiday. The owner, Richard Bohm, said he starts each class by having participants come up with an idea for their work of art.
"Your piece is going to be unique," he said. "No two of them are the same, just like the individual, just like the couple, everybody is unique."
The age-old crafting process uses very specific tools. "This is the old-fashioned technique," said Bohm. "This lead and glass and everything goes back hundreds of years."
The beauty of stained-glass art captured his attention nearly 50 years ago. Bohm said his wife had so much fun taking classes here in Tulsa that it inspired him to learn, too.
"I went from my self-employed engineering-type work and before you know it this all started in my living room," he added.
Tulsa Stained Glass opened in 1975. Bohm sells his work and materials out of the shop and also teaches the art form to others. Three very special classes are being offered on February 13-14th perfect for couples, singles, or groups of friends.
Bohm said, "I love my work, I love teaching, I love helping people get to the next level, get that inner drive, get that inner artist coming out, and have fun."
These classes are not about perfection but rather enjoying the process. "They have no problem picking up a 700-degree iron or making decisions and doing things because that is what it is all about is that confidence to be able to do things that you have not done before," Bohm added.
Creating a stained glass work of art that will last as long as your love or friendship.
