As the warmth of spring begins to appear, folks at the Tulsa Botanic Garden say it was the perfect time to reopen their gates.
"After winter, after everything’s died back, when you get to see the little crocuses coming up and they’re vibrant yellow and purple, it's just beautiful. How could you not be excited?” said Horticulturist Haley Parmenter.
After being closed for nearly two months, the Botanic Garden says it’s been a long time coming.
“We’re just really excited to have folks out and hopefully people are excited to come out and see what’s already bloomed and enjoy a day outside,” she said.
But there’s still some work to be done to make it perfect for guests.
“With spring coming on, we have to do a lot of maintenance to make sure the gardens come back beautifully every year,” said Parmenter.
She has been tending to the garden and making sure it's ready for members like the Barbas.
“We’ve been waiting since December to come back out,” said Jamie Barba.
She homeschools her two sons Rhys and Rory and says they use the Garden as part of their nature study.
“We observe the changes that happen throughout the year, we see what one area looks like today and then we come back in a month or two and see what it looks like then and compare and contrast,” she said.
She hopes as the garden continues to bloom along with their minds.
“It gives us good appreciation for the things that are around us,” she said.
And with budding flowers and warmer days ahead, the Garden stands ready to welcome visitors back into a world of wonder.
It will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
