Hominy First Graders Pause Recess To Pay Respects During Funeral Procession

Some Hominy Elementary School students lifted a grieving family's spirits through a simple act of respect.

While first graders at Horace Mann Elementary School in Hominy were at recess this week, a funeral procession drove by.

Instead of carrying on with playing, the students stopped, ran to the fence, and bowed their heads to show their respects.

Sandy Layton took took a picture on her way to the cemetery to lay her mother to rest. She said it brought so much joy to her family's hearts seeing such respect from young children.

The teacher, Charlotte Lowry, said she wanted to teach her students what it means to respect and love the community they live in.
