Clary Sage College is helping send students back to school in style.
"Cuts 4 Kids" is a two-day event on the Tulsa campus where its student stylists give out free haircuts to school-aged kids.
"Kids are kind of the unexpected, so they are going to deal with all kinds of situations in these two days that we do the cuts, and it really is a very big learning experience for them," said Clary Sage College Director of Education, Michelle Wamego.
It is a great experience for students like Grace Lane, who is set to graduate next week.
"I just got thrown a cut that I am not used to," she continued saying, "You just have to roll with the punches, so it is kind of just getting me used to the real world."
The days are long but worth it to Lane when a kid leaves her chair happy.
"I like making people feel like the best versions of themself," she said. "I love when clients leave feeling beautiful."
A feeling all three of John Toler's daughters left with Tuesday morning.
"My daughter was in a bad mood, but she is smiling and very happy now," he said.
Giving each kid a haircut and a boost of confidence for the first day of school.
"The kid I just had, he is starting his high school year, and so he is going in with no shag anymore, so he is pretty excited now," Lane said.
A relief for them and their families, who are spared one less back-to-school expense.
"I am a single father," said Toler. "I know how expensive it is to get it cut so it has helped a bunch, especially with three of them."
Cuts 4 Kids is August 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 3131 S Sheridan Rd.
